What’s your connection between beauty and health?
Personally, I choose to live a very healthy lifestyle and food plays a huge part in helping me feel my best. I’m a big fan of eating healthy and exercising—wellness in general is a passion of mine, and has been since I started my career. So much of my beauty philosophy is about feeling good and taking care of your body. It’s so important to me to empower women to feel comfortable in their own skin, because when you feel good about yourself, there’s no limit to what you can do. Beauty and a healthy lifestyle go hand in hand—what you put in your body is just as important as what you put on it.
My advice to women is to remember to keep your body (both inside and out) healthy and in good working order by nourishing it every day and keeping it moving and energized with exercise. After all, you only get one body, so it’s important to treat it right. Your body will thank you by giving you everything you need to look and feel your best.
What was the inspiration behind Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Intensive Skin Serum Corrector?
Similar to the Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF 25, I wanted to create multipurpose products that provide coverage and improve skin over time. Equally innovative, Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Intensive Skin Serum Corrector are part of a new hybrid category that provides true skincare benefits with powerful, good-for-skin formulas. Combined with our new foundation, these products let you create the perfect flawless face.
What’s great about Intensive Skin Serum Corrector and Intensive Skin Serum Concealer is that they cover dark circles perfectly and beautifully while treating them over time. To create these silky hybrids, potent serum ingredients were combined with ultrafine makeup pigments using cold fusion technology. The result is supercharged formulas with a weightless second-skin finish.
Talk about the connection to Eastern Medicine?
My passion for wellness has opened me up to alternative healing practices, including a more holistic approach to nutrition and holistic practices like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), yoga, acupuncture and different types of massage. Whenever I head out to Telluride, Colorado, one of my best-kept secrets is to visit Josh Geetter, a TCM practitioner and Acupuncturist that I’ve been seeing for years. Sessions with Josh are amazing—I always feel centered and energized, and invariably leave with some new herb or tea that becomes part of my wellness routine. Josh, in addition to other holistic gurus I visit, fuels my passion for holistic living and has introduced me to new practices that are aligned with my beauty-from-the-inside-out philosophy. Recently I’ve been learning about the next big holistic wave, Ayurveda, which actually is a centuries old Indian medicine practice that focuses on healing and living a healthy lifestyle through balanced food, herbs, yoga, massage, aroma, meditation, and other practices.
What’s the best way to use & apply Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Intensive Skin Serum Corrector?
The secret to covering dark circles lies in a unique two-step approach—Corrector and Concealer. Working together, they can instantly brighten your face and lift your mood. They can make you look and feel better, even before you apply the rest of your makeup. To begin, first apply eye cream to moisturize and prep skin. Then, start with a corrector to brighten and neutralize discoloration under the eyes. Peach or pink in color, a Corrector counteracts the purple or green tones underneath the eyes that Concealer alone can’t cover. If your skin is pale, choose the lightest colors, starting with bisque or light pink. For deeper skin tones, choose a medium or dark peach. Use the doe-foot applicator to apply the pink or peach-toned corrector directly to under eye area, up to the lash-line and inner corner of the eye. Use your ring finger or a Concealer Blending Brush to gently press and blend the Corrector into the skin. Don’t pull or tug at the delicate skin around the eye area. Follow with a layer of Concealer that’s one or two shades lighter than your foundation to lighten under eye area. These formulas are designed for all skin types and provide medium coverage.
Concealer is my ‘desert-island cosmetic’ – I wouldn’t dream of living without it. It’s the one product that I feel most dramatically improves the way you look. When applied correctly, it instantly makes you appear awake and refreshed—like you’ve had 8 hours of sleep—no matter what’s going on in the outside world.
What’s the difference between the original concealer & corrector formulas the new formulas?
The treatment/skincare benefits are the main difference. These products are a fusion of skincare and makeup and designed to conceal and treat skin. Also, they provide women with another formula option to choose from—it meets the needs of women who prefer a liquid formula instead of the original creamy formula. It’s all about options and preferences.
Can you layer the original concealer & corrector formulas and/or tinted eye brightener with the new Intensive Skin Serum Concealer and Intensive Skin Serum Corrector formulas?
Yes, you can definitely layer the different formulas. But don’t mix the formulas because it will dilute the finish and effectiveness of each product. Layering the new Intensive Skin Serum Concealer over the corrector is a great option, or even trying a tinted eye brightener and then the new serum concealer on top. There are various options to choose from, depending on preference and desired finish.
What does balance mean to you? And what are your top balancing tips?
To me, a balanced living means having a positive outlook, making time for the important things in life and focusing on good habits. I know this is easier said than done—maintaining balance is a reoccurring goal of mine. But I’ve found that sticking to the basics helps. Here are some of my personal tips on how to incorporate balance into your lifestyle.
- Eat healthy. Looking and feeling great starts from within. A well-balanced diet of nutrient-dense foods—veggies, whole grains, fruits, lean protein—plus at least 8 glasses of water, fuel your mind and body, keeping you healthy, energized and functioning at your best.
- Exercise regularly. Regular exercise can help you live longer and look better. Plus, exercise is essential for your brain. Your brain need oxygen for a happy, healthy life, and you get that from exercise.
- Learn to Prioritize. It’s important to find balance between your personal life and career. The key to doing this is to prioritize. If you know what’s important to you, you will always make the right decisions.
- Get Social. Maintain healthy relationships with friends and family—we all need positive relationships in our lives. And having a good support network is an essential for a balanced lifestyle.
- Be Happy & Have fun. Don’t forget to laugh—it’s great for your health. So laugh, joke, play and find your sense of humor. Nothing makes me feel better than a good old-fashioned belly laugh.
- Be Creative. Indulge in creative outlets you enjoy—whatever they may be. I find that this helps me reduce stress in my life and it’s what I love doing.
- Give Back. The more you give in life, the more you get back. I love helping others because it feels good.
